“ID” audiovisual performance, May 13th, 2004
AKI Hall, Enschede, The Netherlands

directed and performed by Kristina Ianatchkova

ID links an individual's identity with the social and cultural impact it has on the world around us. We live in a world full of labels, categories and definitions, which, voluntarily or not, help shape our notions of personal identity. The performance dealt with the fluid nature of identities, their construction and destruction, questioning whether we seek to be unique or a collection of replications. The performance movements can be likened to the practice of Japanese Butoh, a dance without physical technique whose essence is in the expression of a metamorphosis.
